Geneva Airport has been named Airport of the Year 2013 by Air Transport News in the category for 10-30 million passengers.
«This is a great honour which rewards many years of sizeable investment to move the airport from one era into another,» said the airport’s CEO Robert Deillon on Monday. The awards were presented at a ceremony in Montreal.
«We’ve managed to keep up with the growth in traffic at Geneva by offering our passengers and partners infrastructure which is bigger, more modern and more ergonomic as well as a client-oriented service.»
Last year, Geneva Airport carried 13.9 million passengers (a ten-year rise of 73 per cent) and 192,944 movements (a five-year increase of 16.5 per cent). A movement is defined as a landing or takeoff of an aircraft.
The airport serves more than 120 direct-flight destinations in Europe, North America, Africa, the Middle-East and Asia and deals with more than 50 scheduled airlines, of which some 20 are non-European.
In addition, it is the second European airport for private aviation after Paris le Bourget.

Overall Airport of the Year this year was Istanbul Ataturk Airport, which welcomed 45 million passengers in 2012. Airline of the Year 2013 was Turkish Airlines.
Airport of the Year in the under ten million passengers category was Rajiv Gandhi International Airport, also known as Hyderabad International Airport.
