Consumers in Switzerland and Liechtenstein are waiting for their bank statements to be corrected after a technical error duplicated Tuesday’s debit and credit transactions.

SIX Management AG – a Swiss company that processes electronic payments – announced on Thursday that anybody withdrawing cash or paying for something with plastic on January 21 was accidentally charged twice.

The glitch affected cards issued by banks in Switzerland as well as in the tiny neighbouring state of Liechtenstein.

«SIX is in close contact with the banks and is working on resolving the problem,» according to a media statement released by SIX on Thursday, noting that it would inform clients as soon as more information was available.

It seems that foreign-issued cards were not affected – a relief for international guests attending the annual meeting of the World Economic Forum in Davos.
